Learning to Fly

by Roman Bershadsky

Rush hour traffic and smoldering heat
Have conspired in driving me mad.
Urban life is too much for a struggling human
Who's merely trying to be...
I'd say "happy" but nobody knows what that means anymore,
Now that happiness is a just another
Commodity, readily sold in convenient
Bio-degradable packaging.

I'm taking off into the endless blue sky,
Leaving behind my earthly possessions and nightmares and sins.
Learning to fly, like little nestling, spreading my wings.
Learning to fly... Learning to fly...

Silver cage that we are living in,
Called "nine to five" has distorted our minds.
We're replacing all windows with big screen TVs
Just to watch other people who are...
I'd say "carefree" but then they are laden with same
Fears and horrors and demons who sleep biding time
till it's time to break free and explain to their masters
Their life's nothing more than a golden cage!

I'm taking off into the endless blue sky,
Leaving behind my earthly possessions and nightmares and sins.
Learning to fly, like little nestling, spreading my wings.
Learning to fly... Learning to fly...

Skillfully wasting our precious time is how we live
And we are getting better and better
At mastering many delightful and exquisite ways
To waste time with as much...
I'd say "pleasure" or "joy" but those words sound fake.
I suspect their true meaning is lost in abyss,
Where our inner child slowly grew up into our
Inner demon who wants to break free!

I'm taking off into the endless blue sky,
Leaving behind my earthly possessions and nightmares and sins.
Learning to fly, like little nestling, spreading my wings.
Learning to fly... Learning to fly...
